Hi, Christiaan Page here, and welcome to 100 Days of Summer. I’ve got a couple of great questions that have come through the comments. Thank you very much for those questions, they offer me some great insights into the things that people want to know.
The first question was from my good friend Miguel. I’ve got to do a quick shout out to say, Congratulations Miguel on the arrival of your new son, Martin. That’s wonderful news and I wish you, Isabel, and Amelia all the very best. The first question was, am I going to Tokyo? Absolutely, I am heading out there in late June. It’s been a lot of work and the team in Tokyo have been doing a fantastic job, to enable us safe passage into the city to support the Games delivery as part of the IOC team. I am looking forward to being there on the ground in the coming weeks.
The second question, which is a really good one, is what happened in this extra year of grace due to COVID-19, have there been any changes in technology with this extra time? The extra year has been challenging because the momentum that all the organizations have in delivering the event was halted, which caused quite a lot of impact. All the shipping of equipment and people was halted, which made the logistics quite a challenge for all of the organizations and partners involved. However, technologically, there will be no significant changes at the games. We’re still delivering the same scope of work. Obviously there has been an impact due to COVID but there’s a lot of countermeasures in place, mostly linked to the operational procedures. We were fortunately able to continue the testing of our programs, such as the management software and the systems that work behind the scenes to deliver the results and other applications. But we’ve been able to manage that process, which is good. And the extra year, has helped us refine some of the processes as well. And certainly, some of the new projects like DIVA, which is going to be delivered for the first time in Tokyo. The extra time has given us a bit more of a runway to get into the detail planning. Therefore, this extra time has provided us with a greater opportunity to fine tune the machine to get things ready.
I really appreciate these questions, please keep them coming. I’ve got a fantastic list building of future topics, which I hope to provide further insights into the journey, as we count down the 100 Days of summer. Great to have you with us, have a healthy, happy day wherever you are. Thanks. And bye for now.
